. >> reporter: overnight, the f.b.i. did search an apartment in a boston suburb and conspiracy theories grew online, some of them involving a shaod doey figure seen yesterday on a roof top. but for now officials said they have no suspects and no motive. instead the f.b.i.'s special agent in argeaid the cas wide open. >> this will be a worldwide investigation. we will go where the evidence and the leads take us. we will go to the ends of the earth to identify the subject or subjects who are responsible for this despicable crime and we do everything we can to bring them to justice. >> reporter: federal agents also set the record straight on some widely circulated misinformation about the bombings. >> to dispel any rumors, there were rumors floating around that there were up to seven devices at one point. that's not true. i think that happened as a resu of some suspect packages that were disrupted. but we only have two devices that we're aware of and both of those devices were the ones that were -- that did the damage and were involved in the explosives incident. >> reporter: evidence recovered
the bombs exploded. an f.b.i. press conference scheduled for 5:00 p.m. was postponed due to a bomb scare. as of this taping the press conference hasn't taken place. here's a report from the cbs news with scott pelley. >> reporter: sources say investigators are trying to identify a person identified as a young white man who was scene in the crowd near the second bombing before the device exploded. a surveillance camera at a nearby lord & taylor department store captured images of the man who was carrying a backpack and talking on a cell phone. sources say he was wearing a black jacket, gray hoodie and a white baseball cap which was backwards on his head. investigators say the man-- who seemed to be alone-- put the backpack on the ground. then when the first explosion occurred at the finish line about a hundred yards down boylston street, he took off. just a few seconds later, the second bomb exploded near where the man had been standing. investigators now are going through cell phone logs to determine who made calls from that location near the time of the explosions. sources say the f.b.i
